Neighbours were evacuated as firefighters tackled the blaze at the
flat in Muirhouse Crescent at around 11am yesterday morning. Three
men are believed to live there though no-one was in at the time
of the blaze.
A disabled man who lives next door was unable to leave his flat
until fire staff rescued him from the thick smoke.
George Reid, 54, said: "I panicked - I'm disabled so I can't
run and the fire exit was blocked by the flames and the smoke, so
I phoned the fire brigade. Flames were leaping out of the window
at the back of the house. It was very scary."
Six appliances attended the fire, which was under control within
half an hour.
